EXCERPT FROM THE STUDY

According to Agha, (2016), the benefits of health Information Technology are clear in principle, but adapting the new information systems to healthcare has been relatively difficult and rates of use limited. In Nigeria, there have been genuine concerns about whether nurses use best scientific evidence in their practice. The paucity of research on use of evidence- based approach in clinical nursing care in the country has not only amplified these concerns but also virtually stalled meaningful efforts at assessing research-practice gap in nursing care in Nigeria.

In Chiang, (2019) words, the nursing profession must be able to navigate the high-speed, convoluted pace of our healthcare delivery system, and nurses must be prepared to meet the demands of patients, complex technology, more responsibility, and less physician contact. Besides, we are in an era of evidence-based practice, and although it may be indisputable that combining evidence-based practice with technology enables nurses to integrate better practices from the nursing literature into the care of their clients, meaningful evidence-based practice is feasible only through the lens of ICT-enhanced practice. Beyond that, the doctrine that ICT will help compensate for the chronic shortage of nurses while simultaneously improving patients’ care is equally plausible (Chiang, 2019).
